CATIA 3D Tolerancing & Annotation (TOL)

Based upon 3D definition, CATIA 3D Tolerancing & Annotation guarantees consistency between 3D design and 2D tolerances and annotations. Users can create a 3D product from a 2D schematic and apply tolerance and annotation information to a 3D product, which ensures consistency. The 2D layout can be directly created in 3D to define the product and to capture key manufacturing knowledge. Afterwards, users can generate the assembly drawing and the product definition is directly re-usable for manufacturing planners and can propagate downstream systems.

Furthermore, CATIA 3D Tolerancing & Annotation enables specifications of tolerance and annotations to support international standards, such as the STEP standard.

Capabilities

  • 2D Layout for 3D Design is the only product on the market that makes it possible for a designer to work in a 3D environment with advanced 2D drafting capabilities during the conceptual phase of a project. Multiple views can be positioned in the 3D environment and the user can also add 2D geometry to the views. Design intent is captured by taking advantage of all normalized dimensions, annotations and dress-up capabilities.
  • 2D Layout for 3D Design also incorporates powerful tools to export 2D geometry as profiles and planes for fast and associative 3D geometry creation. Dimensioning and tolerancing annotation data can be added, with respect to norms from the preliminary design phase, and therefore do not have to be recreated in generated drawings for delivering technical documents.
  • Users can benefit from wizard-like creation of 3D tolerance specifications and annotations in representations of parts and assemblies, fully associative to the geometry.
  • Numerous filtering criteria are provided to build filters on views in the 3D environment. For instance, the type or the sub-type of the tolerance/annotation, the associated feature or geometrical element, the annotation plane, the annotation set, or the default annotation. Filters are defined at the 2D layout level and are referenced, on demand, by each view to achieve the best flexibility.
  • Sketch-based part design features (hole, pad, shaft and rib) allow the user to automatically generate the relevant FTA dimensions and tolerances features, making it easy to reuse. Tolerance values and Part Design constraints are associative, allowing the use of the mean dimensions command on FTA dimensions. Moreover, constraints can also be edited through the FTA dimension.
  • The full integration in the Knowledge platform allows the user to define parts and products with tolerance specifications and annotations that are already captured in design templates.
  • This unique tolerancing check ensures compliance with international standards and increases productivity.
  • Team members can perform measurement and sectioning to reveal or identify product elements that are not readily apparent from a basic, unmarked view of the exterior surface.
  • This capability makes the 3D presentation of tolerances as accessible as 2D drawings, so that every customer or supplier can benefit from a full 3D product definition.
  • Users can visualize query and filter FTA features in the ENOVIA 3DLive environment. The team members involved in product reviews can exchange viewpoints with annotations thanks to 2D and 3D markers. Design specifications are rapidly shared within and throughout the enterprise.
